The gargoyles on the sides of the Basilica in Quito are these wonderful depictions of animals from the Galapagos and the Rainforests of Ecuador. I really love that the colonialists in South America reinterpreted the imagery of the Catholic church, instead of mythic creatures they use 'real monsters.'
